Running rich, fouling plug.

Post by Pie-eyedpiper »

After a bit of a lay up over winter, my Mk2 is a pig to start and only runs for about 30 secs.
The plug is very wet, and it has always run a bit rich anyway. But it used to run Ok.

What is the best way to lean things off?
Is it best to raise the clip on the needle, or open the air screw slightly?

Any help greatly appreciated.

fuel, oil, plug change and a good thrashing :) usually sorts out a 2stroke coming out of hibernation this will free up clutch plates as well as they stick together over time

Turn off fuel, remove plug and lob in bin, bang bike into 1st gear, push bike around for 5 mins with plug still out and with ignition OFF, bang in a NEW BR8ES, turn on fuel and ignition, choke, kick, ring ding ding ding, ride, enjoy.
Also, put new fuel in. Clean scabby filter, clean scabby pilot jet, and other jets.

I found cillit bang and a toothbrush quite good for cleaning carbs and jets believe it or not .... Also, modern fuels with ethanol in them don't have a long shelf life, you'll find new fuel works wonders itself !

Cheers

Have you forgotten the old advert :?: " things go better with a coca cola, things go better with coke".
Yes, some of that cheap own brand label coke also makes excellent parts cleaner.
On visit to Heathrow with a mate who worked there, they were busy in the cockpit of one plane removing a stubborn stain of the windscreen with coca cola :!: :!: .
