Cleaning bearings?

So, I have taken my crank cases to have some welding around the oil drain plug tidied up before I put the engine back together. I had already been to Leisure Trail last weekend and got myself everything I needed for the rebuild.
Now it would seem that the welder has left a few tiny bits of metal wiring inside the cases, as well as a lot of metal dust.
This seems to have got into the bearing's as they are all very stiff and gritty now when there was no problem with them before.
Am I right to be angry with the welder for ruining my bearing's, or should I be angry with myself for leaving them in the cases?
Can anyone recommend a good way for cleaning, or should I just look to replace all of them?
I am incredibly frustrated by this as I was going to begin the rebuild tonight but now I can't.
