Need some Carb Help!

Greetings from Japan!

I'm a Canadian living in Japan, I have a self confessed bike problem, but I'm not asking for help on that front, oh no! :D

I have in my garage a friends bike, it is a MK2 CRM250, he is wanting to sell it.

A while back he had an aftermarket carb put on it, it ran like crap, so now, as he wants to sell it, he has asked me to put the stock carb back on, the only problem is there is no main jet, pilot jet or needle in the stock carb!!

The stock carb he had taken off the bike that he wants me to put back on the bike is the PE 31A carb on it, which I see from the specs page is for the MK1 modle....? But is should work.

I have had a bunch of 2-smokes over the years, and I have a large handful of 2-stroke carb needles, really, something like 25 or 30, so I figure I might be able to find one that is \"close\" or for that matter, as the bike has an FMF chamber and pipe on it, maybe a slightly different needle would be good.

While I'm at it, I might as well ask about jetting for this bike with the more free flowing exhaust.

I hope someone has that needle number, or I might just have to break down and order one, which would suck, as I do have so many of them.

To whomever is responsible for this site, GREAT SITE!!!

Cheers!

Well I don't own the bike and I'm more of a road guy now, as I'm not as young as I used to be  and getting to good off-road areas from Tokyo is a bit of a hike. I do own a 95 RMX250 that is all modded out for Super Motard.

Cut my teeth on 2-smokes off-road as a kid, Honda MR175 Elsinore, or KDX175s

I've helped road racing guys get stuff from Japan before, and I would be willing to help you guys if the need arises, but don't forget shipping from Japan is not cheap.

I saw the specs page, I even went to the PDF workshop manual and downloaded that, but what I need is the number on the needle!

I put a very middle of the road needle in there, a CEJ, buttoned the bike up and on the third kick it started! Not bad, the gas in there is near on 8 months old! the bike has sat that long.

I could not see how well it runs, as it is rather loud, and it is not just after midnight here  and I don't hate my neighbours that much !!

I'll go down to the Honda dealer tomorrow (if the bike don't run right) and see if I can find out from them.

BTW the needle is the part of the carb system that actually lifts out of the main jet when you twist the throttle, so the length, thickness, and the angle of the taper define how the fuel is delivered in the midrange of the power band.

Cheers!

If you take the top off the carb, then pull the slid out, you have to remove the cable from the slide, and the little plate the holds the needle in place, then just pop the needle out and take a look.

Don't know what the number/letter combos will be, but it could be a 4 or 5 digit combo.

Cheers!

you in japan

So I made it down to the shop, I got color copies of the various models and color sets, I'll scan these into the computer tonight when I get a bit of time.

They seemed to think that ordering the sticker sets would be no problem at all.

The bike is still popular here.

In fact this shop has a brand new still in the crate AR :o

The shop owner will not sell it, he is keeping it as a collectors piece!

He has several older CRMs and he bought this one and has kept it in th crate.

Can you believe that in the shop manual and the parts list they do not list the needle!!

They will call Honda Tech support on Monday and get the info for me!

Cheers!
