mk1 crm 250 fork seals.

Post by philgeorge01 »

Hi I have just got a crm 250 mk1. The fork seals are leaking. Looking to buy some but keep seeing different sized seals coming up. Either 43mm or 43mm inside diameter. Have measured fork, although not with a vernier and they appear to be 40mm. Any advice please.

These might fit,

MK1's are a doddle to do as well, they can be hydrauliced out using the oil from the other fork leg, you are going to change the oil, right?

Hi thanks for the reply. I have ordered a set that go with frame number so should be ok. Yes I'm going to change seals and oil.

I've never done them before Mike. I'm a maintenance engineer by trade so think I will be ok doing them, but any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks Phil

Take them off the bike.
Take out the springs, note which way up, and which forkleg.
Tip all the oil from one fork into the other.
Take of the dust seals, and scraper washers and the spring clips below, noting the order.
Compress the leg expelling the air.
Put a large socket ovet the air valve on the top to protect it.
Use a jack/trolley jack to compress the fork, a heavy duty lintel or similar will do, an extra pair of hands here is useful.
As the seal is compressed out, the pressure will fall off.
Catch the oil to reuse for the other leg.
Check the bushes for wear, newseals will not last long if the bushes are shot.
Drop the new seals in a cup of hot water to soften the seals.
Place a little food wrapper over the top of the fork to protect the seal lips.
Use the old seals as a driver for the new seals.
A seal driver can be made from plastic pipe joiners.
Best to clean out the empty fork leg with some parrafin or similar.
Top up with your favourite brand and weight of oil.
Ride and feel the difference.

Hhmmmee, I wonder if someone has grafted a set of CR125 forks on there?
Is the lug for the speedo drive on the R/H forkleg?
The guidelines set out above are still hold true though.

Great thanks for the replies. Fork seals purchased from wemoto and fitted. Next question though. Where can I get the sealing ring for the expansion chamber to engine. The one on there has fallen to pieces. Thanks
