Hi, Just bought myself a mk1 CRM and am bit by bit sorting the niggling issues.

I'm new to offroad bikes and 2 strokes - my Street triple doesn't have a powerband...


I know this probably isnt the right section but I'm hoping someone will see and be able to help
1, my powervalve isn't working. I've followed the guide and it seems the powervalve controller isn't working. Would an NSR controller fit? if not does anyone know where I might get a controller?

2, The TEMP light is always on. I've checked the loom and sensor and all seems ok. I'm wondering if the LED relay is buggered. anyone had this happen? The oil light works ok.

3 the head bearings are shot. I've got new from leisuretrail, how much of a job is this? I'm a car mechanic so i'm au fait with spanners but there aren't many steering heads on cars....

Welcome :) .

Questions -

1) Are you sure that the PV controller is a fault :?: . I have one spare if you are sure this what is needed.

2) Is the temp light on as soon as you start the bike :?: . Maybe it is just the sensor in which case I've got loads around & can give you one FOC.

3) There are lots of tutorials on changing the headstock bearings on the internet. The only difficult part is getting the lower cup section off the stem. This needs judicious cutting with a cold chisel. Better to use a cutting wheel with a Dremel and cut as much as you can before a gentle tap with the chisel.

Well the PV motor turns when you apply power. the PV itsself turns freely, the POT behaves as it should when threatened with an ohmmeter and the bowden cables are free and unfrayed. I'm not 100% that it is the controller but having taken it off the bike it has obviously been buggered around with before as it's covered in silicone. How much are you after for the comtroller?

The temp light is on as soon as you kick it over. The sender seemed to check out ok and the light stays on whether the cable is earthed directly to the engine, connected to the sensor or left hanging free. If you have a sender then it would be useful to try it but I'm not sure that's the problem.

Also I'm after indicators. I know they get knocked off offroad but I have to do a fair bit of on road riding to get anywhere and I'm conscious that a crosser with no indication or mirrors is a police magnet....

You are perfectly legal to ride without mirrors and indicators unless you have a pillion.

Im 99% sure you have to have at least one mirror to ride legally.

I always forget to turn indicators off, so i took em off! I prefer hand signals/gestures :lol:

Hi ste and welcome ,i am sick of indicators not working due to shaking themselves to bits when off roading ,as for the mirror no idea but ive never been pulled without any.
Im thinking about a bike with more valves than a powervalve

Well thanks to knackeredmk1 I now have a working powervalve :D I've fitted new headstock bearings (much easier than expected)

My only issue now is the ~@~%$^ water TEMP light. I've tried everything. Even disconnecting and or grounding the wire to the temperature sensor doesn't put the light out. I can only assume the relay is stuck "on" has anyone else had this issue?

It's not actually running hot though?
I think there's a test that can be applied to the sensor.

Are you sure the wires behind the headlight are ok? Bit of a long shot but i wonder if the wire to the led led is shorting off a constant live feed ie headlight?

Well, I had a look last night and it's definitely the relay that's up the swanny. The side that controls the oil light is fine, but the side that controls the water temp is always powered, whether or not the sensor wire is earthed. I know it's not a standard relay, it appears to have some electronics in it and also step the output voltage down to an LED friendly 4 ~ 5 v. question is, where can I get one and how much?

I happen to have kept all the old wiring from the headlight assembly of my Mk1. If you can get me a photo/description of what you need I can send FOC.

You sir are a star!
There is a cuboid electronics box 60 x 35 x 20mm that is mounted on the upper right hand fork leg/yoke with a white 4 pin plug and a black 4 pin plug entering on the bottom side by side. I'm not sure how to post photos on here.
