Coolant Leaking from Sidecover

Post by John McD »

I've just got the engine back together and back in the frame. When I filled the system with coolant, I found it leaking out what appears to be weep hole in the clutch cover, in front, down low. Looks like a purpose built hole. I took the side cover off, but couldn't find the hole from the inside, although I didn't get the water pump gear off.
Can anyone provide information that would help a yank to get a CRM on the road in the states. Would be much appreciated.

It's a 1993 Mk2/2. The hole is in the clutch cover down low right above the boss for the bottom mounting screw for the water pump cover. Probaby about 1/32\" in diameter. Coolant will come out in a steady stream.
Thanks

John - is it on the water pump case itself ? sounds to me like the bleed hole for the water system. Should be a screw in there (I think with a washer)....

No, it's not in the water pump case, it's in the clutch cover, beneath the water pump cover. The hole is not nearly big enough for a screw. It is literally a pinhole. It's located on the front of the clutch cover, facing the front of the motorcycle. I'll take a picture later today, although I'm sure the hole won't show up, it will illustrate the location.
Thanks

That is a tell tale hole to tell you your waterpump is leaking!
when you put the case back on you may have damaged the outer seal, so take the case off and replace the waterside seal (May need to do both) also check water hasnt made its way into the engine.
What happens is the water gets through the one seal and drains out of the hole rather than being forced into the engine.
All waterpumps on engines have this hole. Jon

Thanks, I spoke with a friend over here this morning that told me the same thing. He said to replace the seal and the shaft together. So I guess I'll be placing an order with LT.
Thanks for the help,

I've got the same problem on mine.
Can someone please tell me precisely what needs to be replaced. I have never had the side cover off.
