Spoke compatability
I have two sets of standard wheels for my CRM: one for knobblies and the other for more road use. I need to respoke the "road" set so am wondering if XR250 R/XR400 R spokes are the same? The wheels certainly look very similar and there are sets of stainless spokes on ebay for the XR250/400R for quite reasonable money. I know I can get spoke sets made up but thats going to be a LOT more
Thanks!

Re: Spoke compatability
I think it would be extremely likely that they are compatible but I cannot say they are.

Re: Spoke compatability
OK, thanks. I think I will buy a set and if they don't fit then just take a hit on the postage to return them. I'm sure the head angles will be right but a few mm out on length would be bad.

This doesn’t answer your question, but xr400 wheels are a direct drop into a CRM250AR.

Re: Spoke compatability
I can now confirm that the XR front spokes sets are not 100% compatible BUT will fit the CRM if you enlarge the holes in the rim by 0.5mm. The original holes in the hub are fine so I guess the hubs are identical with the XR range. I'll now buy a set of rear spokes and report back in a week or two. Details as follows;
I used a Psycho MX-06046 front spoke kit listed as suitable for the Honda XR250/400/600/650R. Currently £56 on Ebay (Elite MX).
The length and spoke angle are identical to the original CRM250. The spokes are, however, slightly thicker (3.44mm cf 3.15mm in the CRM). Also, the nipples are wider on the body (7.13mm vs 6.56mm) and on the head (10.7mm vs 10.0mm). The nipples seated nicely on the rim once I passed a 7.5mm drill down the holes. Total number of spokes = 36.

I can now confirm that the rear spokes fit with the same proviso ie you need to open out the holes in the rim with a 7.5 mm drill bit.
